Ok, I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but I actually ordered something from one of those cheesy late night informercials, lol!
The Aluma Wallet
I was sitting there watching Star Trek The Next Generation, and this commercial for the Aluma Wallet comes on. I’m kind of laughing at the ridiculous images of people running over their wallets with a truck and dropping them in water, but then I happened to glance over at my disgustingly over-stuffed, faded wallet. Memories of a painful buldge in my back pocket and credit cards frequently dropping all over the floor came rushing back to me. So the next morning, I found myself online ordering (with some hesitation) an Aluma Wallet. It was only like $10, so I figured the only thing I had to lose was my pride!
I’ll Take the Blue One
The aluma wallet is availible in 4 colors. Silver, Blue, Black and Red. I ordered the Blue one since, well my favorite color is Blue. My wallet arrived about 5 days later.
Ok, It’s a metal wallet
Yeah, that’s the jist of it. but it’s actually more of a carrying case than a wallet. It’s about the size of a smart phone, but it is very lightweight. It can also hold a great deal of credit cards, ID’s, pictures, cash, etc. My old wallet had grown to at least 3-4 inches think when folded. This made it very hard to get in my pocket and very uncormfortable to sit on. I transferred everything to my aluma wallet and it all fit with plenty of room to spare. The best part is, the aluma wallet is less and an inch thick even with all my crap in it!
It’s Actually Kind of Stylish
I was a little worried about the cheese factor, but the aluma wallet is pretty stylish. It has a clean modern look that goes right along with a cell phone, ipod or any other of the gadgets we all carry around these days. I’d also describe it as uni-sex, meaning a woman could also feel comfortable carrying one in her purse.
You Can Run Over it With a Tank
From watching the commercial, that’s the impression you get. I did not try to run over it with my truck, or drop it in my fish tank or blow it up with dynamite so I can’t speak to any of the claims on TV. I have dropped it on concrete a couple times however and it still looks new. No scratches, scuffs etc.
Protect Your RFID Chips
I do want to speak to one claim the commercial makes, and that is about protecting your RFID chips. Most credit cards these days have RFID chips in them that store all kinds of personal information. There are devices that allow hackers to walk up to you and scan your RFID chips and obtain your information without you even knowing it. You find out when you start bouncing checks and find out someone purchased 500 Playstation 3 Consoles on your card. Aluma Wallet claims to defeat these scanning devices. Now I can’t speak directly to that, but here’s something that I find pretty interesting.
I was on a business trip to Chicago a few weeks back. My colleague and I shared a room and both had room keys which were the electronic cards that most places use now. Long story short, we both stuck our keys in our wallets (he had a normal leather wallet) which were in the same pocket as our cell phones. His room key didn’t work. Mine did. The desk clerk explained that keeping the cards near cell phones scrambles them and that she has to re-program at least a dozen a day because of this. Did my aluma wallet protect my key card? I can’t say for sure, but I found it pretty interesting.
How To Order
The aluma wallet is not available in stores so I bought mine from the Official Site . They have a special offer going on right now where you can get two aluma wallets for the price of one ($10.99). I gave the second one to my wife, she loves it. It really helps her keep her purse organized. So while I can’t say I’ll be buying anything else off the TV for awhile, I am really glad I bought the aluma wallet.
